Personalization starts with the visit

October 9, 2026 · 1 min · Neil Black

A page already knows a few things when it loads. The hour on the device. The width of the screen. The language the browser asked for. Sometimes the site that linked here. None of that requires an account, a warehouse, or a cookie.

Why that can change a conversion

Conversion, on a marketing site, is usually one next step: a form, a call, a demo. If the headline matches the visit, that step is easier to recognize. A morning reader and a late-night reader are not always asking the same question. A number comes later, from a test with a baseline and a window.

Where the product company starts

Reading a signal in the browser is the small version. Storing it, gating it on consent, and running rules across a site is the product. That product is Black Box Personalization. The labs there show the beacon, the consent switch, and the rules. This studio designs and builds the page those rules sit on.

There is a small demo on the personalization page of this site. It adapts a paragraph to this browser and does not upload what it reads.
