What belongs in a case study

October 2, 2026 · 1 min · Neil Black

A case study is useful when it tells you how a decision was made. The constraint, the thing that shipped, and the measurement that followed. A logo wall without that story does not help the next project.

The published case on this site is Black Box Personalization, our product company. The sample studies show how we would take on other briefs: a research institute, a developer tool, and a field-service company. Cards marked Sample show the shape of a client note.

What a real case study would include

  • The constraint the project actually had.
  • What shipped, in plain language.
  • What was measured, and the window it was measured in.
  • What the measurement does not prove. A clearer page can still leave revenue for a later test.

When a client agrees to be named, that story joins the work page with the same structure: constraint, what shipped, and what was measured.
